About this deal

His parents separated when Parin was six years old and he grew up spending time with each, travelling around Europe with his father. After studying architecture for a year in Munich, he began art studies at its School of Arts and Crafts (German: Kunstgewerbeschule). Whether you visit the wold of Greek mythology through auditory means or a visual guide, D'Aulaire's is the divine choice. It was neat that he plopped out his eyes when he found out he had killed his father because that was the punishment he'd said and he lived up to it. these and other equally fabulous figures are featured here with their heroic deeds and petty squabbles illuminated in full dimension.

Everyone, no matter what his or her age, should read this indispensable retelling of the Greek Myths, a foundation stone of the Western tradition. My copy is old (stolen from my elder brother, in fact; it was his first), taped back together, missing it's covers, and extremely well-loved.So like a handful of hydra teeth I'll just plant this on the family bookshelf and wait for mythological magic to take root in due time. It was the beginning of my father's disdain for me, and his fear of my mind (the latter, I've always suspected, was close to the root of much of the abuse I suffered at his hands). The audio book ended a bit abruptly, but it was a wonderful listening experience I highly recommend. After pursuing separate careers initially, the couple turned to illustrating children's books together, releasing their first collaborative effort, The Magic Rug, in 1931. But that doesn't make this volume any less worth owning, but rather underlines its ultimate purpose: to open a door into the bottomless universe of classical studies.

I can't remember if I was the one who suggested Greek Mythology or if it was she, but I do remember her aiding me at the card catalogues, then she sent me off to the shelves to track down "292 DAU [JUV].In a relaxed and humorous tone, these splendid artists bring to life the myths that have inspired great European literature and art through the ages, creating a book readers of all ages will cherish.

I occasionally wonder if I would be the person I am now if I hadn't discovered this book at such a young age. A modest insurance settlement following a near-fatal bus–trolley collision in Paris provided the seed money for Edgar's steerage-class voyage to the U. No more than Mother Goose, but they formed the imagination and are part of our Western understanding of who we are. Kids don't always love what their parents love, however, so I put it on his shelf and waited for him to discover it.I devoured D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths in what was then record time, and within days I was debating my father on theology.
