About this deal

The Core i5 13400F, in particular, stands out for its efficient thermal design, making it a better value for users concerned with long-term performance and energy consumption. Intel® VT-x with Extended Page Tables (EPT), also known as Second Level Address Translation (SLAT), provides acceleration for memory intensive virtualized applications. Intel does not commit or guarantee product Availability or Technical Support by way of roadmap guidance. This CPU is a superb, i build my system without any GPU and it performed very well on some new games.

For most of 2022, we recommended the Core i5 12600K for the best gaming CPU and the Core i5 12400 as the best gaming CPU on a budget. The 'F' denotes the Core i5 13400F's lack of integrated graphics, which isn't a deal breaker by any stretch of the imagination. The final product is the same, regardless of which die is under the hood, but this does mean that you don't see the L2 cache increase that Intel introduced with Raptor Lake on the Core i5 13400F. There isn't too much to say about overclocking — Intel doesn't allow overclocking the 13400's CPU cores, and a workaround created by the motherboard vendors for the previous-gen chips doe sn't work with the new Raptor Lake models.

Unlike the previous-gen 65W Alder Lake processors, there is no workaround for overclocking Raptor Lake's execution cores, as Intel adjusted to prevent a workaround from the motherboard makers. The Intel Core i5 13400F is a processor I've been waiting patiently to test since I first heard wind of it last year. Additional baselines can be obtained using Windows version of PerformanceTest's Manage Baselines feature. You also have the option to stick with less expensive DDR4 memory with the Core i5-13400/F and get the same gaming performance as DDR5, albeit at the cost of some overclocking headroom with DDR5.Generationally, Intel has increased the core-counts for the i5-13400F (6P+4E), compared to its predecessor, the i5-12400F, which only has 6 P-cores, and no E-cores, but as detailed above, the i5-13400F has been significantly segmented apart from the i5-13500 and i5-13600 non-K, with the latter two giving you 4 more E-cores, and 4 MB of extra L3 cache, besides higher clock speeds.

Please check with the system vendor to determine if your system delivers this feature, or reference the system specifications (motherboard, processor, chipset, power supply, HDD, graphics controller, memory, BIOS, drivers, virtual machine monitor-VMM, platform software, and/or operating system) for feature compatibility. Intel® Thread Director helps monitor and analyze performance data in real-time to seamlessly place the right application thread on the right core and optimize performance per watt. Both chips are evenly matched in single-threaded productivity applications, but the Core i5-13400 with DDR4 and DDR5 is 5.
