About this deal

and when his gaze slides to me, i know with a rush like gravity that i can't be invisible, because he sees me. she's witty, sarcastic, knows what she wants, and is completely oblivious to the fact that henry likes her! This book is set in a very exclusive school in Beijing, and Alice, the heroine, isn't going to be able to attend much longer even with her scholarship due to her family's dwindling funds.

Alice’s big gesture to reclaim power didn’t seem anywhere near as much a death blow as the scene made it seem, and the way ‘good’ characters just seemed to get off unscathed bothered me. Henry is one of these people; Alice perceives him as someone who has everything—essentially the opposite of her. let me just tell you that i was so thrown when i noticed that there's magical realism (i ended up loving it tho).

i loved reading her and henry's banter, it was so cute 🤭 i do feel like not everything came full circle in alice's story. She’s been successful in that although she’s had to (literally) share the spotlight for every award with her rival, Henry Li. after the encounter, suddenly, a wave of unease washes over her as she begins to shiver uncontrollably, her breath quickening and becomes invisible, realizing something is terribly wrong.

If You Could See the Sun quickly made its way into my heart this year (as of writing this, it’s the only book I’ve read three times this year), so much so that I would say it’s one of my favorite books ever. This was a buddy read with Maggie😋 and we both agree that HENRY IS LITERALLY MASTERMIND BY T-SWIZZLE👏! I like the class struggle stuff, and how much Alice’s ambition and anti-heroic actions are tied to the unfortunate reality that she’s just starting with a lot less than her classmates and has to do a million times more work just to keep up. I expected there to be more consequence, or at least more character development as a result of this experience.I love me some magical realism and it's always awesome to see YA that isn't set in the United States. But I like the class stuff tackled in the story, and I just wish the ending had packed a bit more punch.
