About this deal

It takes longer for those with darker skin that rarely burns – it can take 25-40 minutes for the darkest skin type. Smithaln Ultrasun I have used ultra sun products for a number of years. They suit my skin. Sun tan creams/after sun/ factor 50 face. Would not use anything else, plus great value with a free gift! It’s no wonder that doctors, dermatologists and beauty editors alike will tell you that protecting your skin is of paramount importance. But sadly, not all sunscreens are created equal. As is often the case, it’s worth investing in a quality product that will do the job effectively and give you much-needed peace of mind whether you’re at the beach, park or just lounging in your garden. The only negative is that there is a definite white cast with this, and it did pill quite badly if I reapplied on damp skin. However, it's a price I'm willing to pay as it's otherwise brilliant. dianadingbat Best sunscreen on market Best sun screen on the market. I know that I & all my family, including grandchildren will be protected

LDL26 Great SPF Face Moisturiser It goes on really well, feels good and protects the face from the sun. So all good! Believe it or not, the best thing you can do for your skin daily is to apply a sunscreen. Not only will this reduce the chances of your skin ageing prematurely, but it will also protect you against harmful skin cancers. And if you think sunscreen is only essential on sunny days, think again. For maximum protection, you’re supposed to apply it even when it’s cloudy outside – and even if you spend most of your time indoors. Why I love it: This sunscreen is the go-to for anyone who struggles with sun sensitivities. The SPF50+ formula is suitable for the whole family and will ensure even the most sensitive and reactive skin is protected. OrmskirkJanet Tried and Trusted Always buy this product to wear all year round . Does exactly what it says . UVA rays are the biggest cause of premature ageing on the skin, so this lightweight cream creates a powerful shield to absorb them and prevent them from causing damage. For more details on the importance of vitamin D and where to buy supplements, see our in-depth vitamin D guide . Other ways to stay safe in the sun

Plus, the SPF spray can even be used upside down (trust me, I tried) so you can ensure all those difficult to reach places are always covered. I haven’t had a chance to try this on holiday yet. However, I can’t wait for that feeling after a full day on the beach, getting out of the shower and slathering my sun-stressed skin in this cooling, watery aftersun. I might even pop it in the fridge for full-on ice-cold relief! Discover More: Cover up – wear sunglasses to protect your eyes and grab a hat if you need to keep your face out of the sun. You might also want to wear a T-shirt, which can help to cover up typically over-exposed areas such as shoulders. Some people worry that using sun cream might prevent them from getting enough vitamin D, but this isn’t the case unless you really overdo it. Mineral sunscreens in particular often promote their environmental credentials, the most common being that they’re ‘reef-safe’ or 'ocean-friendly'.EmRD46 A keeper! I bought this as I had seen it recommended by Caroline Hirons & others, and the French pharmacy brand I had been using have reformulated and my skin did not like! I suffer with terrible polymorphic light eruption, so will try anything! I absolutely loved this suncream. My PLE didn't come up at all, and although I think this was partly to do with the fact my skin had been exposed through summer, the fact that it didn't show at all is fantastic. I also didn't burn at all and have a lovely tan instead - I don't burn easily, but I'll normally catch a bit, but even after spending all day on a boat, I was protected and didn't have to keep reapplying. If you’re in your twenties like me, ageing might not be your biggest concern right now. However, I know that my future self will thank me if I start thinking about skin-ageing now and doing what I can to protect against wrinkles and fine lines from appearing.

Even with our test subjects just sitting on a chair in a T-shirt, we saw substantial reductions in the level of sun protection, so we don't think you can rely on once-a-day sun cream to keep you protected all day. There are many factors that make Ultrasun stand out from its competitors. From their ethical values to their clean formulations, their weightless textures to their long-lasting protection – there’s a lot that makes Ultrasun special. Babies less than six months old should be kept out of direct sunlight, according to the NHS, and the skin of young children should be protected from the sun when UV levels are high. There’s lots of choice. I tried the three products mentioned above but there’s also a sports range, a Glimmer 20SPF version, Family options. Lots. My Ultrasun review: the downside? Hannah16 Great value I bought this with 20% off with Sparks so a good price. My go to sun protection brand, can't be beaten in my opinion.

Sun cream provides protection from sunlight using UV filters. These are classified into two types: chemical and physical – also known as mineral sun cream. The sun emits two types of ultraviolet radiation. UVA affects the skin’s elastin, leading to wrinkles and premature ageing (although it’s also linked to developing skin cancers). UVB is responsible for sunburn and can increase the risk of skin cancers, too. Certain sunscreens carry a UVA star rating from zero to five, which indicates how much UVA radiation they absorb, relative to UVB radiation. Don’t be alarmed if there isn’t a number on the bottle, though: the rating system was devised and is owned by Boots, so not all brands carry it. Reg123 Great Suncream Bought this for a week away in Menorca. Although expensive, a little goes a long way, and applies very nicely. Protected us well and no sunburn. Would definitely buy it again and highly recommend it.I wear shade ivory as my tone is quite fair, but it’s also available in a honey shade, which would be better for people who have darker skin tones. This is sure to be a firm favourite of my mum’s, who has in the past been known to avoid wearing sun protection completely (tsk tsk!) in the hopes of getting a better tan, and for people who like to get a “base tan”. And the Swiss boffins who created it have also managed to provide a shelf life of two years, compared to an average of six to 12 months, so you can hang on to it safely. SPF is one of the best anti-ageing steps you can take, and it’s more effective the earlier you start as the majority of premature skin ageing comes from damaging UV rays. This is why I always start my day off with a hard-working sunscreen that I can wear under my makeup and provide all-day protection. Consider the time of day – If you're spending time in the sun without wearing sun cream, you should only do so before 11am or after 3pm, as the middle of the day is when you're at the greatest risk of getting burnt.
